2025/2026 Off Ice Coach ~ Coach Cory

Coach Cory Interview

  • How long have you been a trainer?

I have been a trainer for 2 years with Wayfinder Fitness & Nutrition. Prior to becoming a functional fitness trainer, I coached Middle School Basketball, Volleyball, and Baseball along with being a Varsity Baseball coach. I was also the Director of a Sailing program back in Upstate New York.

  • What made you choose to become one?

Being a school teacher got me interested in being a coach/trainer/instructor

  • Do you play hockey and if so what age did you start playing hockey?

I started skating when I was two years old.

  • Why did you pick hockey to play?

I started playing because my dad loved the sport and I wanted to be like my older cousin.

  • What position did / do you play? If you play currently, what’s your team’s name?

I play defense and I currently play for Eagle River Gun Cache.

  • How would you describe your coaching / training style?

I would say I am laid back in my coaching as I want everyone to do THEIR best with a little push. As for my own training style, I try to push myself to do something harder than I think I can because that is how you get better. When I was playing High School Hockey and Travel Hockey, I was on the ice every day with my dad working on different skills during the off season.

  • Do you have any hockey superstitions?

I do not.

  • What do you do when you are not playing hockey or in the “off-season”?

Working out (haha), Hanging with my girls, bike, hike, camp when we get the chance, and go see Alaska.

  • Do you mind sharing how many children you have and their ages?

I have two girls, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old.

  • Favorite song?

American Idiot

  • Favorite movie?

Anything horror

  • Do you have a favorite quote / saying?

You miss 100% of the shots you never take.

  • Interesting fact about yourself?

When I was getting my undergrad degree, I made both the D1 Club Hockey team and the D1 Club Baseball team. I had to choose one and picked hockey.
